This Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors and users of our website and app with regards to the information that they shared and/or that we collect through Baseword. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website or mobile app.
The website is informational. You cannot create an account, sign in, play, or make a purchase on it; accounts, gameplay, and purchases exist only in the mobile app. The Baseword web game and the hint packs previously sold on the website have been discontinued.
When you first visit our website, a cookie consent banner will ask you to accept or decline non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising). Essential cookies required for basic site functionality are always active. You can change your cookie preferences at any time by selecting Cookie settings, which shows the consent banner again.

Hint packs are sold only in the mobile app, through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The store processes the payment; we do not receive your card or bank details. We receive and keep a record of the purchase, such as the transaction identifier, the product, the purchase date, and whether the purchase was refunded, so that we can deliver the hints and prevent fraud.
Hint packs were previously also sold on www.baseword.co, with payments processed by Stripe, Inc. We no longer accept payments on the website. For purchases made there, we keep a record containing your account identifier, the product, the amount and currency paid, the payment status, the Stripe session identifier, and the purchase date, for as long as we need it for accounting, tax, and dispute purposes. Stripe's own handling of those payments is described in its privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
We retain your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our policies. When your data is no longer needed, we will securely delete or anonymize it.
Multiplayer session data (game state, player answers, and scores) is retained in Firebase Firestore for the duration of the session and may be retained for a reasonable period afterward for debugging and support purposes. Multiplayer achievement records (final rankings and scores) are retained indefinitely to support leaderboard functionality. You may request deletion of your multiplayer data by contacting us at info@olipopsoftware.com.
Baseword follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this as a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.
Like any other website, Baseword uses "cookies." These cookies are used to store information including visitors' preferences and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users' experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information.
Some of the advertisers on our site and mobile apps may use cookies and web beacons. Our advertising partners are listed below. Each of our advertising partners has their own Privacy Policy for their policies on user data.
Third-party ad servers or ad networks use technologies like cookies, JavaScript, or web beacons that are used in their respective advertisements and links that appear on Baseword and KikAssist, which are sent directly to users' browsers and devices. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see.
Note that Baseword has no access to or control over these cookies and tracking technologies that are used by third-party advertisers.
Parts of the mobile application let you choose to watch an advertisement in exchange for an in-game reward, such as Hints or Match Passes. These advertisements are served by Google AdMob.
So that a reward reaches the correct account and cannot be claimed more than once, we send an identifier for your account to Google when a rewarded advertisement is loaded. After you have watched the advertisement, Google returns that identifier to our servers along with the reward earned and an identifier for the advertisement view. We use this information only to grant the reward and to detect fraudulent reward claims. The identifier we send is an internal account identifier used within our Services; it is not your name or your email address.
Watching a rewarded advertisement is always optional, and declining does not restrict your access to any part of the Services. A round of Baseword Match can also be opened with the free round that becomes available each cooldown period or by spending Credits, and Hints can also be earned through gameplay or purchased in the mobile app.
Some pages of our website, including our Videos page, offer video content that is hosted by YouTube, a service provided by Google LLC. These videos are not loaded automatically. Each video is shown first as a still image with a play button, and no connection to YouTube's video servers is made until you choose to play a video.
When you press play, a video player is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com. At that point YouTube receives your IP address and information about the page you are viewing, and it may store cookies or similar technologies on your device in order to deliver the video, remember playback preferences, and measure viewing. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which defers YouTube's tracking cookies until you play a video, but it does not eliminate them. If you never play a video, YouTube does not receive your IP address through the player.
The still image shown before you press play is delivered from Google's image servers, which receive your IP address when the page loads. Baseword does not receive any information from YouTube about which videos you watch or how long you watch them, and we have no access to or control over the cookies and tracking technologies that YouTube sets.
Your use of YouTube's player is governed by Google's Privacy Policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Baseword does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. On iOS devices, we use Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework. Before accessing your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), we will present a prompt asking for your permission to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. This identifier is used solely for advertising purposes, including serving relevant ads through Google AdMob and Meta (Facebook).
If you deny tracking permission, we will not access your IDFA and you will still be able to use all features of the app. You may change your tracking preference at any time in your device's Settings under Privacy & Security > Tracking.
The multiplayer feature includes an optional QR code scanner to join game sessions. If you choose to use this feature, the app will request access to your device's camera. Camera access is used solely for scanning QR codes and no images, video, or camera data are stored, transmitted, or used for any other purpose. You may deny camera permission and join games manually using a session code instead.
